Fire Hydrants

There are three categories of meters authorized to take construction water from public and/or private hydrants within the Virgin Valley Water District as follows:
1. District owned meters.
2. Privately owned meters
3. Government (City, County and State) owned meters mounted on water trucks.

No hydrant meter will be checked out or sold until the customer has signed a "Hydrant Meter Usage Form" kept on file in the District office. Connections to public or private fire hydrants are prohibited unless a hydrant valve and meter is installed. The District may establish limitations on the rate of flow and time of use. The district will install all hydrant meters not privately owned or Government owned and lock meters on the hydrant closest to the customer's need; as far as practicable.

In the event that a connection is made to a fire hydrant without authority from the District, the user shall be required to pay appropriate charges as determined by the District, and shall be subject to other penalties as provided by law.

A designated location for temporary construction water service shall not be changed without making application to the District.

No fire hydrant meter or other equipment owned by the Virgin Valley Water District shall be removed, moved or in any other way be tampered with without notifying and obtaining permission from the District. The District personnel shall read all District owned fire hydrant meters monthly. All Private and Government hydrant meter owners shall call the District office monthly with their meter readings.

A privately owned fire hydrant meter shall be tested no less than once a year. The Virgin Valley Water District will test all privately owned meters. Meter test results shall be on file with the District before a meter is authorized for installation.

The owner of a hydrant meter being tested by the District will be billed for any repairs necessary to bring the meter into compliance. A 'Loaner' meter will be made available by the District during the time of testing and repairs.

Rules for Fire Hydrant and Fire Hydrant Meter Usage
